Dagestan. The Land of Mountains
Dear traveler,
I invite you to Dagestan — a place where the sky kisses the peaks,
where ancient traditions live in every gesture,
and the heart of the Caucasus beats in the rhythm of mountain winds and the waves of the Caspian Sea.
Dagestan lies at the southern edge of Russia, along the shores of the Caspian.
Its capital is Makhachkala.
The name Dagestan comes from the Turkic word “dag” (mountain) and the Persian “stan” (land) — the land of mountains.
Here is the journey that awaits you:
Chirkey Reservoir and Sulak Canyon
We’ll speed across turquoise waters, cutting between towering cliffs.
The wind will dance in your hair as you gaze into one of the deepest canyons in the world.
The ancient villages of Kahib and Goor
Here, time stands still. Narrow stone streets, ancient towers, and the scent of fresh flatbread fill the air.
We’ll visit local homes, share a homemade meal, and learn how to prepare chudu — the famous Dagestani flatbreads stuffed with herbs and cheese.
Derbent — the gateway to the millennia
One of the world’s oldest cities, breathing with centuries of history.
We’ll climb the Naryn-Kala fortress for breathtaking views of the Caspian Sea,
stroll through the ancient magal quarters, visit the Juma Mosque — the oldest in Russia, and step inside the legendary Maiden Baths.
We’ll enjoy lunch at an immersive café with authentic Dagestani cuisine,
and end the evening walking along the seafront, where the sea gently rocks the stones to sleep.
This is not just a trip.
It is an encounter with a different rhythm of life —
with warm-hearted people,
with an ancient land,
with the strength of the mountains and the depth of the soul.
